2023 Genesis GV80 Review

According to Car and Driver, the GV80 should cost thousands more based on how it looks and how it feels. This luxury SUV is being compared to a Bentley, indicating just how upper class it looks.

Looking sleek and trim, the SUV seems built for modern living. A large mesh grille is flanked by long thin headlights which represents the winged symbol of the brand. At the rear, the window is bigger and taller than the front might imply. To once again quote Car and Driver, the SUV design gives it a stately appearance.

Stepping into the G80 SUV, Nappa leather and other rich materials welcome your touch. Burled wood and metal accents add color and texture. Simple shapes and long thin lines add to the sweep of the dash, doors, and other elements. Long and thin, the air vents stretch across the dash.

A multi-zone automatic climate system is the first line of defense against the heat. Side sunshades and rear sunshades offer extra protection. Two rows of ventilated seats can make life really nice on a hot summer day.

For the 3.5T model, Genesis provides a twin turbo V6 engine. It cranks out 375 horsepower and 391 pound feet of torque. 3.5T trim levels include Advanced, Advanced Plus, Prestige, and Prestige Matte.

For especially sharp shifts, the 8-speed automatic transmission has been specially tuned. It has a wide gear-ratio span to ensure that shifting isn’t rushed during moderate speed transitions. To handle greater speeds, the athletic body has been specially reinforced at critical points throughout the body.

GV80 models offer excellent rear cargo space, measuring 34.9 cubic feet. When the seats are down, it has 84 cubic feet of space. You can compare that to the BMW X5 with 33.9 cu ft (standard) and 72.3 cu ft (seats down).

The SUV can pull up to 6,000 pounds. It has 8.1 inches of ground clearance. All wheel drive makes it capable on sandy side roads.

Technology is infused throughout the ergonomic cockpit. It starts with an expansive display on the dash. The touch screen comes with important features including Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Drivers can control the screen with a convenient controller

Creating surround sound to make everyday drives more special, the Genesis G80 has a massive Lexicon audio system. There are 21 speakers to deliver entertainment almost as if it were live.

With customizable lighting, you can do more than add a happy glow to the cabin. You can actually program it to change with your transmission gears. In reverse, it can change to red. This is just an example of the fun you can have when you customize these LED lights.

When you choose Genesis, you are choosing technologies that aren’t available on many rivals. Smart Cruise Control is a good example.

This system works with your built-in navigation system to make predictions about acceleration and deceleration. This means it is considering immediate traffic patterns as other adaptive cruise control does, but it is also using predictions to prepare itself for inclines, big curves, and other driving challenges.

If you want the best way to park your SUV, you want the Remote Smart Parking Assistant. This remarkable feature allows you to stand outside the car during the parking process, if you want to. The SUV can pull into or out of a parallel or perpendicular parking space.

With a reputation for excellence, the GV80 SUV earned the IIHS Top Safety Pick Plus. Beyond its ability to protect passengers, it offers more ways to avoid trouble. This includes a lane departure warning, lane keep assist, a blind spot monitor, an emergency autobrake and a forward collision warning.

Collision avoidance assist is one of the most sophisticated available. Debuting on the 2022 Genesis GV80, the system now watches for opposite-lane traffic at an intersection. This junction assistance identifies threats ahead and on either side. This may trigger the autobrake to stop or lessen a collision.

It watches one lane over to make sure an oncoming vehicle isn’t coming into your lane. It watches traffic two lanes over traveling in the same direction. This system is constantly assessing the other vehicle’s speed and trajectory. It can respond with automatic braking and/or evasive steering torque to assist the driver.

Why should you choose the 2023 Genesis GV80 versus rivals such as the 2023 BMW X5, Mercedes Benz GLE class, Range Rover Sport, or Volvo XC90?
