In the luxury midsize sedan class, the 2023 Genesis G80 is a stand out. Inside the cabin, rich materials and cushy seats make everyone feel at home.

Engine Choices
If you are choosing a luxury ride, there’s a good chance you are a driving enthusiast. Or, at least, you don’t like anything to be done halfway. This luxury midsize sedan offers many ways to enjoy time behind the wheel.
The 2023 Genesis G80 2.5T has a clever turbo four engine. Outdoing the typical V6, the turbo generates 300 horsepower. An 8-speed automatic transmission helps capture momentum from the engine’s 311 pound-feet of torque. There’s no hesitation whether you are pulling away from a stoplight or heading into busy highway traffic.
A G80 Sport should have some racing stripes. This capable car has a twin-turbo V6. Drivers command a potent 375 horsepower output. The torque rate is equally impressive at 391 pound-feet. Unlike the 2.5T which has a choice of rear-wheel and all-wheel drive, the Sport models are strictly all-wheel drive.
Sport models can do the 0 to 60 mph sprint in 5 seconds. Even swifter, the new eG80. The first electric Lexus sedan can make the same sprint in about 4.1 seconds.
The new Electrified G80 is covered in another review. However, we should mention here that the combined output is 365 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque. In short, there’s no downside to going electric with this smart sedan. It even comes with the federal tax credit.
Handling Enhancements
With the G80 Sport engine, Genesis adds an electronic adaptive suspension. This reads the road and reacts in milliseconds to changes in road conditions. It smooths rough pavement and helps the car sail over ruts and bumps.
Shoppers will want to try out rear-wheel steering. This available feature provides remarkable control during speedy drives. With this feature, sport tuning is applied to the adaptive suspension.

Dash Tech
Genesis recently earned the top ranking in the JD Power Tech Experience Index Study. Clearly the brand’s emphasis on innovation, connectivity, and effective interactions is recognized by consumers.
Every G80 has a large 14.5-inch display that can be controlled by touch, a rotary controller, or voice. Infotainment standards include Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity. Also along for the ride, HD radio and Bluetooth.
An 8-inch digital display shares space with the instruments behind the steering wheel. Top trims have a fully digital instrument panel.
Size, Spaciousness and Passenger Comfort
The Genesis luxury brand offers the exclusive Ergo Motion Seat. The driver enjoys an especially adjustable perch with special air pockets that provide extra support and improve the body’s natural position. You can cycle through smart stretching features or choose the Smart Posture feature. In Sport mode, the bolstering can extend automatically.
Spaciousness on both rows is part of this luxury equation, too. Rear seat legroom measures an ample 38.7 inches. The large trunk has a wide opening to allow for easy use. A power feature opens it easily.
G80 sedans have such an excellent build quality that wind, vibrations and road noise are kept out. A well-tuned suspension handles the bumps in the road.
Trim Levels
The 2.5T Standard edition has a generous list of driver assistance and dash technology. The cushy cabin has a glossy black piano trim and a handsome leatherette upholstery.
Front seats are 12-way power adjustable. The cockpit has a power tilt-and-telescopic steering wheel to help the driver find a good angle quickly. For nighttime travel, there’s adjustable ambient lighting.
Ventilated seats are standard on the 2.5T Advanced. Other ways to keep cool include the side sunshades and the rear power sunshade. The second-row is enhanced by a three-zone automatic temperature system.
Bringing in the light, there is a panoramic moonroof. Surrounding passengers with sound, there is a Lexicon 21-speaker audio system.
The 3.5T Sport has a special aluminum trim and a rich leather upholstery. It upgrades the 12-way driver’s chair to a special 16-way chair with cushion extensions. The exciting Ergo Motion chair is standard. This edition has concierge-style features such as power door closure and a walk-in device for the front passenger.

Drivers enjoy some semi-automated driving with Highway Driving Assist II. They have high beam assist and adaptive cruise control.
Higher trims add more parking aids, including the Remote Park Assist. The rear parking assist has a reverse-gear autobrake. A Surround View Monitor watches for obstacles all around the car.
The newest feature is the blind spot view monitor. It sends live footage to the dash to keep the driver informed about what’s behind them. A forward attention warning seeks to keep the driver alert to dangers. This advanced system actually detects the driver’s eyes and alerts them if they look away from the road.
